Latest National Report — Use of Psychedelic Substances in the United States, 2025

Explore the latest NSIHT findings on psychedelic use in the United States, including nationally representative estimates of patterns of use, behaviors, experiences, and outcomes.

Five Key Findings:

• Psychedelic use prevalence varied geographically: The prevalence of any psychedelic use was highest in the Pacific census division and lowest in the East South Central census division.
• Psychedelic use prevalence varied by substance: Psilocybin was the most commonly used psychedelic followed by MDMA, prescription ketamine/esketamine, and LSD while the least commonly used substances were 5-MeO-DMT, ayahuasca, and ibogaine.
• Across all psychedelic substances, use was highest among males and younger adults.
• Psychedelics were perceived to improve mental health more often than they were perceived to worsen mental health.
• Side effects differed by substance.

Data Tables and State Estimates

Explore substance-specific estimates of past-year psychedelic use nationally, by age, by sex, and across all 50 states and Washington, DC. State estimates are based on a small area estimation methodology which utilizes respondent-level characteristics with county and state-level external data to predict psychedelic use in each state.
